Alexander Technique for Parkinson’s – Sponsored lessons 2019

This spring, the Walter Carrington Educational Trust is offering up
 to six individuals who have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s
 Disease the opportunity of having ten free one-to-one lessons in the 
Alexander Technique.

Applications

Applications are invited from any individual who has been 
diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease who has not previously had
 experience of private, one-to-one, Alexander Technique lessons.
 The application process will be open until the 15th of April 2019, 
and the lessons will be given between April and July 2019.
 Applications should be made online (see link below).

Please read
 the guidance notes carefully before making your application.

Guidance Notes:
 All ten lessons offered need to be taken by the end of July
 2019. Please only apply if you feel able to commit the complete 
series of ten lessons. We understand that it can sometimes be 
difficult to keep appointments, and where it is necessary to cancel a 
lesson, the session may be rebooked within the period specified, or 
in exceptional circumstances, the period may be extended. 
Unfortunately, we are not able to make this particular offer available
 to wheelchair users. If you are a wheelchair user and interested in 
the Alexander Technique, please do contact us as we might be able 
to refer you to a teacher or contact you at a later point with an offer 
suitable for you.
 Please pay close attention to the access arrangements for each 
teaching location indicated in the questionnaire.

Accessibility Generally, on street parking is available close by / outside the property. I can provide a parking
 permit to enable this. Also, it’s a 5 minute walk from Montpelier train station and access from 
Stokes Croft bus stops is a 5 – 10 minute walk.
 Access to property via single step to reach front door, then 2 further single steps to access hallway 
into the property from front door.
 The teaching room is reached via a single but split flight of stairs that requires turning back on 
yourself for the second smaller set (four steps). There is a handrail / bannister on one side of whole
 flight. There is a toilet on same level as teaching room but you have to go down 4 steps and up 3 
steps (split staircase) mostly with a handrail / bannister. Drinks available at any time.
Availability Monday, Tuesday and Friday 10am – 7pm (subject to availability)

Accessibility The location is accessed through an archway which is cobbled. There is free disabled parking on
 the street outside, and paid parking in a car park round the corner about 100m away.
 There is a small lip to step over to get into the building from there the teaching room is on the first 
floor, up one flight of steps with a handrail. There are toilets are on the ground floor and there are
 chairs on the ground floor as well as in the reception waiting area.
Availability Wednesdays from 1.15pm til 8.30pm, weekends from 9.30am to 6pm

 a toilet, which is about 20metres from the teaching room

Accessibility The Centre is few minutes’ walk from Holborn train station. Limited metered parking is available in

Accessibility Charlbury is a dozen miles north west of Oxford and is easily reached by car, train or bus:
 1. by car: the Garden House is in the centre of the town and has private parking a few feet from the 
studio.
 2. by direct train from Paddington (75 mins), Reading, Oxford (20 mins), Worcester etc. If walking 
presents no problems, the Garden House is a few minutes’ uphill walk from Charlbury station.
 3. by direct bus from Oxford, Woodstock, Witney and Chipping Norton, stopping a few minutes ' flat
walk from the Garden House. – Streets are narrow but access by private car is easy.
 The studio is on the ground floor and access is easy across a few feet of gravel and a low
 threshold.
 Toilet facilities are in the main house across a few feet of gravel and down four steps.
Availability Between 09:00 and 19:00 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
 Other times by arrangement.

Scott Workman

Brigadier Scott Workman OBE  is a serving Army office currently working in the Ministry of Defence in the procurement and acquisition area. He has seen operational service in Northern Ireland, Africa, Iraq, Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan. He is currently in his final year of service and taking Alexander Technique lessons. He has three children, and he is a keen offshore sailor.

Christopher Carrington

Christopher is the eldest son of Dilys and Walter Carrington.  After leaving school in 1960, he joined the Royal Air Force as an officer cadet at the RAF College, Cranwell. He graduated as a pilot in 1963 and after several flying appointments, served in the Ministry of Defence and NATO Headquarters in Brussels.  After retiring from the RAF in 1991 he worked in London as financial controller and company secretary for a not-for-profit organisation.  In 2001, he ceased full-time employment to accompany his partner on her diplomatic appointments overseas. Now fully retired Christopher is living in west London.

James Rowsell

James, LLB Hons, is Barrister at Law. He has worked for a variety of Investment Banks as an equity financial analyst and salesman, and in a number of senior management roles for Paribas, James Capel (HSBC), Salomon Brothers, Citigroup, and Man Group. He recently retired as CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald in Europe. He is a pupil of the Alexander Technique.

Regina Stratil, administrator

Regina is the administrator of the Constructive Teaching Centre and the administrator the archives. She trained at the Alexander Technique Studio, London, and teaches at the Trust’s Alexander Technique Centre in Imperial Wharf, and at Student Central, former ULU building, in Bloomsbury.

Jean M. O. Fischer, centre manager

Jean is in charge of coordinating all activities at the centre and associated administration. He trained 1984-87 and did two post-graduate terms at Constructive Teaching Centre in 1988. He taught at the Alexander Technique Studio 1997-2012 and is currently teaching on the CTC training courses. He gives individual lessons at the Pimlico Centre for the Alexander Technique, London. Jean has annotated and edited books on the Alexander Technique, and is the publisher of books on the Technique under the Mouritz imprint. Jean is a previous Congress Director, STAT Council Member, and trustee of the FM Alexander Trust.

Gerald Foley

Gerald qualified as a civil engineering in 1957. He is author of The Energy Question (Penguin, 1976) and has written extensively on energy and environmental issues in the developing world. He taught at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, and has worked for the International Institute for Environment and Development and the Panos Institute. During the 1990s he carried out studies for the World Bank, EU, UN and other international agencies. He was chair of the Board of Trustees of the Panos Institute during the 1990s. He trained as a teacher of the Alexander Technique at the Constructive Teaching Centre and has been a visiting teacher at CTC since 2002.

Mary Anne Sutherland

Mary Anne graduated from the Courtauld Institute in 1968.  She then worked in the Editorial office of McKinsey.  After having two children she taught on the Christie’s Fine Arts Course, was a freelance lecturer in Art History and started and ran Art at Exhibition.  From 1983 she was a tutor at City and Guilds of London Art School.  She has also worked with asylum seekers for a human rights lawyer.  Mary Anne has been a pupil of the Alexander Technique with Ruth Murray at the Constructive Teaching Centre for three years.
